Should fast food advertising be allowed in schools

Eng 101 Vixama Markinson
Essay #1 5/13/2010

Should fast food advertising be allowed in schools?

Today in the 21th century fast food are the most selling food in the United States. That’s the reason why obesity is one of the biggest problems in this country. Even though fast food is not healthy but there is a lot of fast food advertising all over in school especially public school. this fast food advertising should not be allowed in school because the government keeps telling us that fast food is not good for our children, than they had fast food advertising all over the school. Those advertising vending machines influence children to buy junk food and they gain over weigh.
The first reason fast food advertising should not be allowed in school is because of the health problems. Fast food makes people gain over weigh also it makes us get sick because the is a lot of food and drinks out there that have high fructose. For example, hamburgers, ice cream, soda, etc contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients and also have long been suspected of leading to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. So when phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low, calcium is pulled out of the bones. This means calcium is pulled out of the bones can makes you get injury easy when you playing sport or exercise, this problems can happen when you get older and also when you a child.
Eating fast food can also make catch a lot of diseases especially by children. Fast food is responsible for many health problems that include heart disease, cancer, high level of cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. One article that supports my idea is fast food and obesity in America, “Bills that would require school to serve healthier lunches, vending machines selling sweets soda, and so on have been introduced in a number of state legislatures. By the way, Britain – with the second-highest obesity among advanced countries- has introduced stringent new guidelines on school meals”.( Krugman 2) because of those problems fast food advertising should not be allowed in schools.
The government and the teacher keeps tell young kids not to eat fast food advertising but is all over the school is fast food. And kids love fast food because those food are really cheep and have a better taste, than made more people buy them, The reason why most of the junks that we are eating have corn inside and that is the main reason for obesity in the United States because people are buying junk food more and pay more attention to junks food then healthy food. Another article that support my idea is personal health; Schools teach 3 c s: candy, cookies and chips, “Beginning in preschool, children are exposed to thousands of message from advertisers that can corrupt the food lessons their parent hope to teach them” That’s why they should stop complaining about fast food advertising and stop saying is not good for us then they government won’t make extra money over it. The best thing the government should do is put more healthy food out there Stop advertising junk food especially around school because most people who are affected by the obesity are teenagers. And also the government should try to decrease the obesity in the United States because too many people have died by those diseases like heart disease, cancer, high level of cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. the best solution the government should do stop advertising fast food because it is not helping put more healthy food out in the community.
That’s why I agree for fast food advertising should not be allowed in school because of health problem in gain over weigh problem. A better idea is the government should put more healthy food out there than the junk food that is in the vending machines.

Eng 103 Soda tax problem

Today I’m going to talk about the soda tax, and the reason people are buying it. Soda is one of the most popular drinks in the world, it sells the most in the united state, because is one the cheapest drinks in the united state.
I’m not agree with the soda tax the reason I’m not agree because the economy is to low that’s peoples cannot buy the pensive dink, if the soda prices are too low and anyone can buy it and also what we put into our mouth is not the government business. They spent all their time caring about cigars and soda and also the is some many drink, and food had more calories, and more sugar, I think the government should try makes the those food company’s put fewer chemicals in their food and put more fruits instead blame everything on soda. The reason in the united state right now have so many obesity is because the is so many young children just stay home eat whole day and play video game without exercise you will still become fat raise the soda tax it will not helping. Because I know so many drink and food out there had high fructose for example hamburger, ice cream, etc, contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients and also have long been suspected of leading to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. When phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low, calcium is pulled out of the bones, The phosphate content of soft drinks is very high, and they contain virtually no calcium a lot of research has found that consumption fast food restaurant in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include heart disease, cancer, high level of cholesterol, etc. the best thing for the government to do put more healthy food out there for less money instead raising the tax.

Facts about corns:

In the article, The consumer, of republic of fat. Richie, Chevat, and Michael Pollan. Are arguing the effect of corn in our diet is negative.
Why do we have so much corn? First “in 1970s this was, of course, the same decade that American embraced a cheap food farm policy”. This cause the over production of corn is being encouraged.
In what way do corns help the country? Corn’s help the country because it is cheat corn can make a lot of thing and it helps the farmer. And also use corns as a good source for many nutrients many people eat corns because most American can afford it, even though corn can make a lot of thing but since 1980s people have been consumed more high-fructose corn syrup for the first time in history. Almost everything we eat have corn for example soda are made of corn, burger made of corn, there are hundreds of things we can do with corn. They can use corn to make everything from chicken nuggets and big Macs to emulsifiers and nutraceuticals.
Where do you think those corn go? “Corn account for most of the surplus calorie we are growing and most of the surplus calorie we are eating It goes to all of food and drink, that’s why we have so many cheat thing for example burger, soda, chicken nuggets big Macs ,etc because all of them has sugar in fact. Since 1985 our consumption of all added sugar cane, beet, HFCS, glucose, honey maple syrup, whatever has climbed from 128 pounds to 158 pounds per person.
How does it affect us? The corn affects our weigh make us get fat, deaf early, diabetes, high cholesterol, and “The president is signing farm bills designed to keep the river of cheat corn flowing, guaranteeing that the cheapest calories in the supermarket will continue to be the unhealthiest”.

D.Michael, Response the government raises the tax price in sodas.

Soda is one of the most popular kinds of drinks in the world. Therefore a lot of people buy it. It sells the most in the united state, because soda is one the cheapest drinks in the united state. Also Soda is easy to find; you can find soda in any place such as: Grocery stores, Supermarket and many more etc.
It would be a good idea if the government raises the tax price in sodas. It can help because the more expensive it gets the less people would buy it. Somehow I’m agree somehow I’m not the reason I’m not agree because the economy is to low that’s peoples cannot buy the pensive dink, if the soda prices are too low and anyone can buy it. Sodas Cost less than the Healthy Drinks, therefore people choose to buy sodas because it’s cheaper. Example: The government doesn’t want people to smoke because smoking creates a lot of disease so the government increases the tax price. The government cares about how cigarettes can cause cancer and etc. Therefore they raise the price and they gave a rule that you have to be at least 21 to smoke a cigar and they even raise the price so less people would buy it. They spent all their time caring about cigars and pay less attention to sodas and soda is a big issuer because of all the chemicals they put in it. I think the government should try to persuade people to not buy sodas. Or either makes the soda company’s put fewer chemicals in their sodas and put more fruits. Because Soft drinks contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients and also Soft drinks have long been suspected of leading to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. When phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low, calcium is pulled out of the bones. The reason I’m agree for the government to raise the price is because The phosphate content of soft drinks is very high, and they contain virtually no calcium a lot of research has found that consumption of soft drinks in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include heart disease, cancer, high level of cholesterol, etc.

Don Michael: Eng103. Fast food workers low pay.

Teenagers like to working at Mc Donald’s restaurant because it is the easiest job to find, and also fast food restaurant hire most teenager also hire people who does not have a lot of experiences, example people with experience and education won’t waste time working at a Mc Donald’s for such low pay. That’s why Teenager work at Mc Donald’s because they need money to buy necessary thing, but what I try to discourse is that fast food restaurant does not offer does people any opportunity.
I have reading a news paper about fast food low way wrote by Glenn Koenen. From the St. Louis post-Dispatch (Missouri).
“Talk about how fast food restaurant forces young people to work many hours as possible, often with more than one employer. Fast food outlets pay worker the minimum wage or pennies more” because they don’t really care about their workers, they are just care about making money and keep the business going. And that’s one of the most reason fast food restaurant hires more teenager, more immigrant because they are less expensive. Also the big reason they hire more teenagers is because they are much easier to control and tell them what they have to do.
In my own experience I have work at a Mc Donald for two years. Did not offer me any opportunity, and also paying me the minimum wage it did not matter what type of job I did and also don’t really matter how do I work because the is no promotion. And also make my study suffer because I have to wake up early to open the business before sun light, and also have to work after school. And make me work holyday without extra pay. This is my experience work at a fast food restaurant.

Don michael: truth about fast food restaurant.

Most teenagers work at a fast food restaurant because they do not need a lot of experience also does not need higher level of education. This means that they hire more teenager. because people with experience and education wont waste time working at a Mc Donald’s for such low pay.
Mc Donald’s usually pays the minimum wage which is $ 7.25 and also it is a part time job wish not offers any opportunity. The good thing about Mc Donald’s is that it is the easiest job to find, and learn. Because to be a cashier you don’t have to know how use computer, all you have to do just press a button, and also for people who makes the food also all you have to do put the bread and the burger together.
One of the quotations from” Eric Schlosser "Behind the counter.” Fast food nation: the dark side of the all American meal. Fit with my point. (page 68) “Unlike Olympic gymnastics and activity in which teenager consistently perform at a higher level than adults, there’s nothing about the work in a fast food kitchen that requires young employees. Instead of relying upon a small, stable, well-paid, and well-trained workforce, the fast food in industry seeks out of part-time, unskilled workers who are willing to accept low pay. Teenagers have been the perfect candidates for those jobs not only because they are less expensive to hire than adults, but also because their youthful inexperience makes them easier to control". Want them for extra hour and use them because they want money they will do anything for it and they doesn’t have a good experience that’s why they are easy to control.
In my own experience I have worked. At a Mc Donald’s for two years. They did not offer me any opportunity, and also paying me the minimum wage. It did not matter what job I did and also don’t really matter how do I work. Also there is no time to take a break. I was always working always having something to do. And make me work holyday with out extra pay, and also Makes my school study suffer because I have to wake up early before sun light to open the restaurant and also after school I have to go to close; I don’t really have time to study
The reason I choice this quote is because fast food restaurants they don’t offer much opportunity to people. Just care about making money and keeping the business
